Incident Playbook

What to do when something goes wrong. Keep this visible in the lab and pit.

Immediate actions

  • Stop work; ensure people are safe.
  • For injury or fire: call emergency services per venue rules.
  • Notify lead mentor/coach and safety lead.

Contain and secure

  • Power down affected equipment if safe to do so.
  • Block access to hazardous areas; post a watcher if needed.
  • Preserve evidence (logs, parts) without creating new hazards.

Report

  • File an incident report with: who/what/where/when, actions taken, photos if applicable.
  • Note witnesses and contact info.
  • Escalate to school/venue contacts if required by policy.

Follow-up

  • Root cause brief within 24–48 hours; assign actions/owners/dates.
  • Update Safety & Rules, checklists, and training if needed.
  • Communicate changes to the team; ensure recurrence prevention.
