Duration: ~4 weeks (early build season)

Required Reading

  1. Mechanical Standards — Baseline practices and safety
  2. Core Design Texts — FRC design philosophy
  3. Module 1: Drivetrain Fundamentals — Drive geometry and selection

Tasks

  • Assemble a KOP chassis or simple drivetrain.
  • Build a basic intake prototype (wood/polycarb) and document results.

Sign-off

  • Mentor verifies assembly quality, tool safety, and prototype notes.

Evidence to attach

  • Photos/notes of drivetrain assembly
  • Prototype test notes (cycle/repeatability) and photos
  • Safety/training acknowledgement

Best practices

  • Work in pairs; verify measurements twice before cutting.
  • Document with photos and short notes (issues, fixes).

Common mistakes

  • Loose fasteners; missed square/alignment; incomplete notes.
